Have you ever looked back on a really cute photo and found that yes, you've got a big smile, and yes, the lighting is good, and no, you aren't blinking but… DAMN IT. You look like the devil with red glowing eyes.

I have.

And it can be very funny to laugh about looking like you've got lasers shooting out of your eyeballs like a superhero (or supervillain). But when it's ruining a perfectly good selfie, it's not funny. It is so annoying.

Why do you get red eyes in photos and selfies?

Believe it or not, the red color you see is actually the light reflecting off the blood vessels in your eyes. Which means yes, it is the color of blood. That's why it's red and not any other color.

Usually, you get red eyes if a photo is taken in the dark using a flash. The sudden bright light is too quick for your eyes. This means the pupils in your eyes are too slow to react and absorb the light, so the retina in the back of your eye reflects the light back to the camera. But the light keeps the color of the retina; red!

Hence, creepy red eyes in photos.

How do you get rid of red eyes in photos?

Luckily, there is a super-easy way to get rid of red eyes within seconds. And you don't need lots of photo-editing skills to do it. We've broken it down in this step-by-step guide so you'll never have a photo ruined by demon eyes again!

Step 1 – Choose which photo you want to edit and open it in Facetune.

Step 2 - In the Face option on the bottom menu, you can edit your eyes' size, tilt, and features. For example, if your eyes look too small because of bad lighting, you can make them slightly larger.

Step 3 – Back in the main menu, scroll along the bottom bar, and select the Eyes function.

Step 4 – In this Eyes menu, you can select the Red Eye tool. Use the slider bar to remove as much red as possible.

Step 5 - You can also use the Whiten tool to bring back some of the white color to your eyes, and the Color tool can also add color to your iris, counteracting any unusual color caused by the camera flash. Of course, you could use the color tool to make your eyes red if you wanted!

Once you've saved your edits, you're done! It really is that easy.

So all those selfies you thought were ruined by having demon eyes can be fixed in seconds as you remove the red-eye and brighten up your eyes. Now every single photo can go on Instagram!
